Identity, Records & Citizenship

Every Barbadian can prove who they are, access their records, and manage their relationship with the state digitally — without visiting an office.

What we’re building

Epics & the forms that make them up

Each epic below groups the government forms and services this theme delivers.

Life Event Registrations

As a citizen marking a major life event — a birth, marriage, or death — I need to register it online, so that I can deal with the paperwork at a difficult or busy time without having to take the day off and queue.

Forms & services
  • Birth, marriage & death registration (new digital system)
  • Burial permit application
  • Legitimacy registration

Identity Documents

As a Barbadian, I need to apply for and renew my passport and national ID online, so that I can keep my essential documents up to date without queueing at a government office.

Forms & services
  • Passport applications online
  • National ID renewal online

Citizenship

As a member of the diaspora or someone naturalising, I need to complete my citizenship application online and see how it's progressing, so that I'm not posting documents internationally and waiting years in the dark.

Forms & services
  • Certificate of Citizenship by Descent
  • Citizenship applications (naturalisation, by marriage, Commonwealth)
  • Citizenship Affidavit & minor citizenship

Trusted Digital Credentials

As a citizen who has been issued a certificate or notarised document, I need it as a verifiable digital credential, so that any agency will accept it instantly without me having to get it re-verified each time.

Forms & services
  • Verifiable digital certificates – issued as Gov Credentials
  • Notary services online

User needs this theme meets

The needs below come from the 2,054-citizen survey and are what this theme sets out to address.

R1

As a person who needs a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or other vital record, I need to apply for and receive my documents without making an in-person visit and waiting a week or more, so that I can get on with the process I actually need the document for.

X3

As a citizen who has started a government process online, I need to finish the entire process online – including payment, submission, and receiving the outcome – so that I don't have to take time off work to visit an office for the final step of something I've already done most of digitally.

X5

As a citizen who has submitted a request, application, or claim to any government service, I need to check the current status of that submission, so that I'm not left in the dark, forced to call or visit just to ask "where is it?"

X1

As a citizen preparing to use a government service, I need to know exactly what documents, information, and forms I need before I start, so that I'm not turned away or sent on additional trips to gather things I didn't know were required.
